I have what is called "mild" asthma, and I have only taken Ventolin for it...throughout my life I've only had to an inhaler when I was littler and once for a short period as an adult. I have recently been having some difficulty with my breathing because my brother moved in and brought his dog and I am allergic to dogs.
My doctor prescribed ADVAIR along with ventolin...but upon reading the instructions I was somewhat alarmed by the "Warnings and Precautions" section that read:
"A large US clinical trail showed an increased risk of asthma-related death and other serious respiratory-related outcomes in patients who used salmeterol (AVAIR) in addition to their usual asthma therapy (ventolin)"
I feel very frustrated and am not sure what I should do. I just go the inhalers today and am not sure whether I should take them. I called my doctor and he said it was fine, even after I told him what it said.
Does anyone know anything about this who could help me?
I don't want to increase the risk of my asthma getting worse by taking this...also, it seems scary that people have died as a result of taking it.
i know it says to consult a doctor but i want to ask on here first.
thank you for the site i will look into it.
and i do plan on it but my doctor appointment isn't till next week so i thought i would look into it.
and yes i know what scoliosis is thank you.
I'm literally shaking and my heart is beating through my chest really fast. I'm not out of breath, but I just had four puffs of my ventolin asthma puffer after exercising. What can I do?
I have had Asthma ever since I was a little kid and I still have it to this day. It has ruined a lot of things for me, and I was never able to do other things other people could. The other day I was offered a Cigar and I said no to that because I wasn't sure if I'd die from it.
Do you think it is okay for me to have a Cigar once in awhile, and not inhale it?
Well my Mother has smoked around me my whole life and the smoke didn’t really bother me. It only bothers me if I'm in an enclosed area where multiple people are smoking.
and are you kidding me? I hope they find a cure for asthma because I am really sick of this!!!!
I'm not planning on getting pregnant for a little while yet but I was just wondering if being asthmatic played any role in your pregnancy?
Did your symptoms change?
Did it make labor harder?
Does pregnancy affect what medication you are able to take to control your symptoms?
I have moderate asthma, I take preventative steroids daily but still have to take my reliever inhaler on a daily basis. I've only ended up in hospital two or three times with severe attacks. I'd love to be able to have a home birth when I do have a child but am afraid that my asthma might make this difficult as obviously labor is a strain on the body which could well make my breathing more difficult.
I realize this can be a physical and mentally demanding job, can this job be done with controlled asthma? (obviously not in the armed forces)
Also, to those who have or currently are a paramedic, what do you think about it? I have read the average career is 4 years, but some have done it for 30, why is this? My family has a bit of a history of doctors (dad, grandpa) so I believe I have the genetics for it =P
Also (again), at my age (14) is there anything I ca do to prepare for such a job? Thanks, I realize this is a lot of questions.
I am using ProAir about 20 minutes before hitting the gym and it helps a lot, but are there other ways to help myself out while I'm working out?
Hi. I'm still recovering from asthma, the doctor said it'll take me 2 - 3 weeks. I got a bad asthma condition and now it's my 2nd week medication but i still feel heavy. I can breathe well now but i still feel that there's a little constriction in my chest and neck. My energy is still low. I'm on a 1 month medication. How long will i have to feel this. Can't wait to be healthy again. Thanks
I need to understand when I can push through it and when its escalating to a dangerous point. I try to push myself a little so my cardio endurance can improve. Today during kickboxing, almost from the start, my chest felt tighter than ever before, my throat hurt and felt tight almost like freezing cold wind was gusting into my throat. Breathing in caused a noise, not sure it was exactly a wheeze. I am newly diagnosed, although I suspect this problem at a lower level for most of my life. So, how can I know if I can push through it safely or not?
I used the inhaler before the workout and 10 minutes into it and again 30 minutes into it. Didnt seem to help at all.
A few hours ago, I figure skated for about two hours, and I ran through my routine four times, even though I felt really short of breath. Now, even though I've been resting, I still feel a little short of breath with some pressure on my chest. I used to have asthma years and years ago, but I haven't had an attack for about eight years. Could it be possible that I'm having one right now? I don't have an inhaler with me or anything, because my mom threw them out once she thought that I'd never have another asthma attack again. I also feel like my heart is kind of fluttery. What should I do?
Im looking for something to take to help me build muscle faster and everyone i talked to said take Creatine.. so i read some stuff about and i found...
"The Mayo Clinic states that creatine has been associated with asthmatic symptoms and warns against consumption by persons with known allergies."
i have asthma should i not take it? will it rly make a difference?
or maybe anything else i can take to get stronger faster?
my son who is 2 has asthma, how do we know the diffence when his asthma has benn triggered or when its a cold.... and then if it is a cold what medican can i give or not give when he has asthma....
I have always had really bad asthma. since school age, every fall and spring season i end up catching a cold and as im recovering from the flue like symptoms i experience asthma symptoms; difficult breathing, wheezing and coughing up flem. My doctor has prescribed me both advar and alburteral inhalers. Now that i am in college, im at that age and you know tried smoking marijuana. I smoke pretty much everyday now and for some reason smoking i feel rids me of flem and difficult breathing. i dont even take my advar as prescribed and only rarely have to depend on my inhaler if im wheezing. is there a medical explanation for this? or is smoking worsening my asthma?
okay so this weekend me and my church are going to a camp up in the mountains, itl be snowing. my moms kind of iffy about it and is fuzzing me to take my nebulizer with me. i don't want to think the girls im sharing a cabin with to think im weird. so im probably not going to use it but definitely going to bring my inhalers. HELP?!
i already know that it's almost impossible to get an asthma waiver. i've already accepted that. so this is a hypothetical. let's say, for the marines, assume they're willing to accept a waiver. what would all the stringent tests and paperwork be, and how long would it be to process?
i know i don't have asthma. i havn't had any symptoms for three years, and i did a lot of running throughout that time. but, i would like to the the legal way through. my conscience just wouldn't let me go otherwise.
I have slight asthma, but it's not that bad. I am afraid of getting asthma attacks out of no where so everyday I take 2 puffs of the Xoponex HFA inhaler, every 4 hours or before i play a sport. I feel like I been doing it too much and I feel like I don't need it and that i'm just using it so I wouldn't have to worry about getting asthma attacks. And I usually don't get asthma attacks but I use it to make me feel more secure. Is this bad for my body and lungs? Using it when i dont really need it? thanks
I really want to join the military, Army or Marines I haven't decided, but I have asthma. I haven't had to use an inhaler or anything like that in a few years. I'm not really concerned because I'm going to train until next summer on running and everything else. But if I do lie to them about ever having asthma what would happen if they found out I had it?
I haven't had any problems with it since I was probably 5th grade..maybe not even that
I'm 16 now almost 17
one more thing I have never had an asthma attack
